Where should the motorcycle tour go this time? Well, if you don’t know, the All-Terrain Navigation System flagship Garmin Zumo XT Louis Edition will make suggestions. Whether it’s in the middle of nowhere, the urban jungle, or wide open spaces, the Zumo XT Louis Edition reliably guides you to your destination. Various programs, pre-installed maps for Central Europe including updates, topographic maps, motorcycle points of interest (POIs), and a feature-rich design leave no wishes unfulfilled.

Ultra-bright display:
The 5.5-inch (14 cm) HD touch display has an enormous brightness of ~1,000 cd/m². It can be used in portrait or landscape mode, operated with gloves, and is rain-resistant thanks to IPX7.

On- and off-road navigation maps:
Turn-by-turn navigation with audio prompts, topographic maps for off-road navigation, and BirdsEye satellite images. Includes updates via integrated Wi-Fi.

BirdsEye Direct:

Teures Gerät aber Müll

Ich habe das Gerät auch gekauft mit der Hoffnung dass ich schöne Touren plane und fahre. Das Gerät finden nicht mal ganz normale Straßen. Ich sehe auch nicht unter meine Einkäufe wann ich das Gerät gekauft habe. Wenn das Gerät vielleicht noch Garantie hat, hätte ich das Gerät zurückgegeben. Da ich nur im Sommer Motorrad fahre , ist das Gerät auch nicht viel benutzt. Ich finde sowas nicht ganz ok, wenn Louis solche Produkte anbietet!

Vielleicht mein letztes Navi

Habe mir das ZumoXT als Nachfolger für mein langjährig genutztes Zumo660 zugelegt, welches nach wie vor funktioniert aber in der Anzeigehelligkeit zeitweise stark nachlässt. Nun denn, das ZumoXT hat eine sehr schöne Helligkeit. Die Reaktionsschnelligkeit bei Änderungen in der Anzeige sowie die Feinfühligkeit des Touchdisplays sind bedeutend besser als beim 660. Die Empfindlichkeit ist so hoch, dass ich gespannt bin, was auf der ersten härteren Regenfahrt passiert.

Wichtiges Kaufkriterium war für mich die weitere Verwendung von Garmin BaseCamp für die Routenplanung. Mit dem neuen Garmin Explore konnte ich mich bisher nicht anfreunden. Ich bin Ü70 und ein "Smartphone-Muffel", daher vermutlich der Hang zum Althergebrachten. Das Zumo XT wird unter Windows problemlos erkannt, die auf dem Gerät installierten aktuellen Karten können problemlos für die Routenplanung genutzt und die Routen nebst Wegpunkten in gewohnter Weise auf eine zusätzliche SD-Karte im Gerät kopiert und anschließend importiert werden. Ein Hinweis: Ich bin eingeschworener Linux-Nutzer und benutze Windows seit dem Ende von WindowsXP ausschließlich für die Routenplanung mit BaseCamp in einer virtuellen Maschine. Das hat bei mir nun nicht mehr funktioniert, weil das ZumoXT zwar erkannt aber nicht richtig durchgereicht wurde, so dass es weder von Garmin Express noch von BaseCamp erkannt wurde. Das war auch bei einem virtuellen Win10 so. Nun...ein altes Notebook mit nativem Windows10 hat die Klippe umschifft.

Eine Anmerkung zur "Louis Edition": Dass der Kartenumfang etwas eingeschränkt ist, OK, aber was soll ich als Motorradfahrer mit dem Vatikan, wenn ich nach Kroatien will und Slowenien nicht mit dabei ist :-). Da muss man wieder mit OSM-Karten "dazwischen fummeln".

Ansonsten macht das Gerät einen guten Eindruck. Es kommt völlig entladen an. Die Ersteinrichtung verlief problemlos und die Kopplung mit Handy und Kommunikationsanlage gelang beim zweiten Versuch. Die Synchronisation mit der Drive-App funktioniert auch, wird aber von mir bisher nicht benötigt.

Als etwas unsolide erscheint mir die Abdeckung der Kontakte an der Motorradhalterung mittels einer Gummikappe mit ungewisser Lebensdauer über die Jahre. Ersatzkauf möglich? Da war das beim Zumo660 praktikabler gelöst. Vielleicht findet sich ja auch ein 3D-Drucker-Spezi, der eine ordentliche Abdeckung fertigt (eventuell bei Louis selber?).

Da ich noch keinen "harten" Praxistest bewerten kann...von mir 4 Sterne für das Gerät.
